The Alex Douglas Quartet (ADQ) is comprised of four of the most formidable personalities (as well as instrumentalists) on the UK jazz scene; Gary Crosby OBE (double bass) and Rod Youngs - regularly seen with Jazz Jamaica and Denys Baptiste - form the engine-room pairing whilst the innovative and  award-winning alto saxophonist Nathaniel Facey sits on the front line on top of the leader’s piano – one minute fiercely driving and propulsive, the next quietly enigmatic with a musical language ranging from contemporary gospel music to McCoy Tyner-inspired postbop via avant-improv with nods to multiple world traditions. ADQ play originals and arrangements, with Alex Douglas having been inspired by Gary Crosby’s love of and commitment to the music of John Coltrane. With a profound commitment to jazz that swings and an equally profound commitment to ‘communicating’ over ‘entertaining,’ ADQ play spiritual, beautiful music that aims to actually make a difference.
